Reconstruction is under way on Larimer County Road 43 (CR43). The reconstruction involves the permanent, accelerated reconstruction of 9.5 miles of roadway between Drake and Glen Haven. Construction work along County Road 43 will start next week with excavation and right-of-way clearing activities taking place between mile markers 7 and 10, the area between the Crosier Mountain Trailhead and Glen Haven. Please plan for up to 30 minute delays if your travels will take you through this area between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 17. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change, so before you travel on County Road 43, visit www.lcr43.com for the latest information on delays.
A weekly ‘traffic delay schedule’ is listed at www.lcr43.com. The public can also sign up at that site to receive updates automatically.
Larimer County Road 43 (CR43) was highly damaged in the 2013 Flood. The reconstruction effort is being carried out by Central Federal Lands in partnership with Larimer County and the United States Forest Service. Initial “seed project” work, starting October 13th, is being done along two sections of CR43 adjacent to U.S. Forest Service Land. At the same time this work is being done, the project team will secure additional right-of-way along other parts of the corridor so reconstruction efforts can move to those locations.
The project builds a more resilient County Road 43 by shifting the roadway away from the river onto bedrock that includes rock blasting, rebuilding bridges along CR43, embankment armoring, restoring the river in areas impacted by roadway construction and asphalt paving. The project is scheduled to be complete in late 2015.
Construction activities will continue increasing throughout the month and the delays could become longer. For additional project information or to speak with a project representative, contact Erich Purcell, Larimer County Project Manager, (970) 498-5733, [email protected] or general information at
800-536-4403 or send an email to [email protected].
